NPI PCBA Manufacturing Engineer

About the Position:
The NPI PCBA MFG Engineer Technical Lead will perform a technical hands-on role and will provide coordination and technical leadership to a small team of engineers responsible for design-for-manufacturability (DFM) of complex PCBA's and PCB's. The Technical Lead is required to review designs and to collect and review feedback from suppliers and to assure improvements are made as the need arises. The person in this role will also work with the team to drive improvements to DFM and quality processes. The goal is to assure that new products are manufacturable with high yield and low cost. Focus areas include SMT footprints, solder apertures, component placement, panel design, press-fit, wave-solder and other PCBA-related processes; PCB manufacturability is also part of the role with focus on material laminate selections, aspect ratios, pad-stacks, and trace width/gaps. Teamwork skills are meaningful since this role works with other teams including key engineering groups and external suppliers.
Responsibilities:
Will lead and mentor a small group of NPI mfg. engineers on appropriate technology items Serves as a key point of contact for external teams and suppliers in the area of NPI DFM and quality issue management. Supports assigned NPI products as a key DFM engineer responsible for PCBA manufacturability including compliance with EMS or other DFM guidelines in areas including SMT, BGA repair processes, wave solder, press fit, component package and new part qualification Works with signal integrity teams and PCB suppliers to develop PC board stack-ups Performs DFM reviews of new designs with responsibility for resolving PCBA and PCB manufacturability issues Attends program teams, EMS partner reviews, DFM council or other meetings related to PCBA/PCB DFM issues; communicates status of programs for the team as the need arises Uses strong understanding of interconnect, SMT, solder process/materials and new component packaging as it applies to PCBA manufacturing to improve designs for high yields and ease of assembly Monitors or develops DOE's to identify and confirm process parameters related to PCBA in coordination with factory teams Manages or leads specific mfg. technology related projects as the need arises in collaboration with outside suppliers and internal subject matter authorities (e.g., surface finish qualification) Provides mentorship and support to quality and sustaining mfg. engineering teams for critical quality or manufacturing problems on assigned products Minimum
Qualifications:
Track record in supporting new product development teams as an NPI mfg. engineer with responsibility for complex PCBA and/or PCB manufacturability Requires confirmed knowledge of interconnect and electronic assembly applications and technologies including soldering, press fit, and rework with knowledge of IPC-A-610. Understanding of sophisticated failure mechanisms in PCBA process and or PCB fabrication and knowledge of standard failure analysis techniques (SEM, EDX, X-section, Die and Pry, CSAM) Proven ability to work independently in a multifaceted growth environment Excellent English communications skills, both verbal and written. Excellent problem-solving/analytical skills with strong aptitude for collaboration Practical skills including experience improving business processes Coaching and mentoring skills BSEE/BSME or higher degree with at least 10 years of electronics manufacturing experience Preferred
Qualifications:
Experience as a functional lead, functional manager, or project manager is desirable Candidates with both OEM PCBA NPI development and EMS partner factory experience preferred Experience working with hardware development teams responsible for design of hardware products Solid understanding of PCB fabrication processes a strong plus Other Information:

Salary Range:
$100K -- $150K
Minimum Qualification
Electrical EngineeringEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
